The Government team searching for the Nicola Faith fishing boat has found a sunken ‘vessel of significant interest’.
Last month North Wales Police confirmed that the bodies of all three missing Conwy fishermen – Carl McGrath, 34, Ross Ballantine, 39, and 20-year-old Alan Minard – had been found.
But the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) has located a sunken vessel offshore near Colwyn Bay – at 53°20.019’N - 003° 41.876’W.
Now the chief inspector of Marine Accidents has issued a Notice of Direction to Prohibit Access around the wreck requiring it be left undisturbed until further notice.
Using Merchant Shipping powers, the direction prohibits access to or interference with the wreck of the unidentified vessel.
The direction forbids anchoring, fishing nets, trawls or lines in the vicinity of the wreck. Diving is also forbidden in a circle radius of 200 metres around the wreck’s location.
