Shoppers in Llandudno Junction and Deganwy can help local causes as they buy.
Co-op’s new Membership app saves customers money whilst supporting local causes in and around Llandudno Junction and Deganwy, such as the Kaleidoscope Theatre, a children’s performing arts group.
The app also includes a new scannable digital Membership card, so customers can swipe their card in a completely contactless way.
Deganwy’s store manager Natalie Shaw explained the benefits of the card.
“I think about 30% of our customers in Deganwy are Members, which is quite a high number, so that’s great for our local causes,” she said.
“A lot of the locals have cards, and a lot of the younger locals have it on their phone as well because the app enables you to scan your phone.
“Once you’ve registered to your Membership account, if you’ve forgotten your actual physical Membership card, you can get a digital one with a QR code, and you can scan that from your phone at the till.
“You get 2p in every pound spent on Co-op products returned to your rewards balance and the same amount goes to local causes as well. It adds up quite quickly. We had an incentive to sign up with a free bar of chocolate, so a lot of our customers in Deganwy signed up!”
Natalie said customers also enjoyed the Membership’s personalised weekly offers on the app, which offers Member-only in-store promotions. Natalie, who arrived at the store in July, also explained spirits had improved in Deganwy now the two-and-a-half-week lockdown had ended.
“Every Monday the offers change, based on what you’ve bought on the card. So somebody who buys more fresh food would get money off their fruit and veg,” she said.
“I think people in Deganwy seem happier now the firebreak has finished. People seem a bit more positive, looking forward to Christmas!” she said.
Members can also access recipe suggestions and choose the local causes they want to support through the app. Since 2016, Co-op have donated over £70 million to 21,000 local causes – and the programme refresh has seen the amount Co-op donates to local causes double.
