Conwy Town Council has agreed to pay £3,000 towards a new lawnmower for Conwy Bowling Club.

Following an application for £9,000 to the town council’s community development fund, Conwy Town Council invited the bowling club to present their case.

At a previous council meeting, Cllr John Rooney said he was ‘alarmed’ the council had not received receipts to evidence how a previous grant for fencing was spent by the club.

Addressing the town council, club representative ‘Terry’ said the club was a popular community resource used by working-class families. Terry explained the club needed a specific lawnmower to cut the grass at a low enough grade but said they didn’t have the funds to pay for the equipment.

Several councillors proposed the council support the club with a grant of £6,500, but others argued the club should look at other pots of funding.

Cllr John Rooney proposed the council give a grant of £3,000, and Cllr Helen Roberts seconded it, and the vote was tight but conclusive.
