UP CLOSE IN CONWY: We chat with Llandudno Junction's Co-op store manager

Conwy Nub News aims to support our community, promoting shops, businesses, charities, clubs and sports groups. We will be profiling some of these businesses and organisations regularly in a feature called ‘Up Close in Conwy’.

This week, we chat to Connor Venables, store manager of Co-op’s Llandudno Junction store.

Connor explained how he came to manage the store on Station Road.

“I have been with the Co-op for just over six years,” he said.

“I previously worked for a different retail company but decided to apply to join the Co-op as a team leader at the Deganwy store. Since starting my Co-op career, I moved around a few of their stores before being successful at a manager interview last year and moving to manage the Llandudno Junction store in April of this year.

“I enjoy working in different stores and with different teams. Every store has a different customer base, and it's interesting to serve different communities. Llandudno Junction is the sixth Co-op I have worked in.”

Connor said one of the most enjoyable parts of his job is looking after his customers, particularly over the past 16 months during difficult times.

“Supporting our customers through the COVID pandemic has been really rewarding. Just doing our day-to-day job has made a difference,” he said.

“Co-op is a great company to work for because they are different from other retailers. Both colleagues and members get great benefits such as tailored offers and 2p of every £1 spent on Co-op products back for themselves while giving 2p from every £1 back to the local community. Members can also join and vote at AGMs.

“Co-op’s ethos is great. We support both local community causes and national community organisations through our membership. The current national charity partnership is with Mind, SAMH and Inspire, all supporting mental wellbeing. Knowing how much support we give is satisfying, and I'm taking part in an over-night walk up Snowdon in September with some colleagues to fundraise, in aid of Mind.

“I love how Co-op do their bit for the planet. There are loads of ways we are helping, but the most recent is reducing plastic waste, not only with how products are packaged but giving customers the opportunity to recycle soft plastics. For example, in my store, we have a bin for bread bags.”

Co-op membership helps support your local community, with great rewards for you too. When you buy selected Co-op branded products and services, 2p for every pound spent goes to you and we’ll give the same to local communities. Join us today online here or in-store.
